What savouring a lemon tart reminded me of…

I don't know why, but today I felt very open to life.

I felt connected to the knowing that my time in this body is finite.

So I decided I wanted to savour the moment as much as I could and taste the splendid flavours of a lemon tart from my local bakery.

I ate each bite slowly, letting my whole mouth taste the tartness of the lemons, the sweetness of the custard, and the satisfying buttery crumble of the pastry shell.

It. Was. Divine.

Imagine every day had that level of pleasure!

Dying people are much more aware of their impending departure from their bodies, and will often want to experience once again the small pleasures in life before it's time to go.

As caregivers and helpers, you can make the dying process much more meaningful by honouring the wishes of the dying, while being reminded that your life is also made more rich by the simple things.

A walk in the sunshine.

The soft fur of your dog.

The smell of the trees in High Park.

The taste of a lemon tart :)

As I slowly invite more awareness of my mortality into my daily life (because I want the most beautiful, delicious, intentional life possible), I’ve decided to give less energy to fear and worry, and more to savouring the moments as much as I can.

When you transition onto the other side you'll be able to enjoy many things, but unfortunately not the pleasures that you have now while in a physical body with 5 senses :)

That is the gift of this Earthly plane.

So… enjoy the tart, and let me know what you discovered inside the flavours and textures :)
