master your mind and learn to let go

“Earth School” teaches us lessons for our soul journey through contrast.

A big, warm hug from someone who knows, loves and cares for you would not be as comforting if you’d never experienced the heartache of loss, for example.

The deep satisfaction that comes from accomplishing a personal goal you worked hard for, like completing a diploma, or running your first marathon, or finally cleaning out your garage…

… would not be as glorious if you’d never in your life experienced the frustration of procrastination or failure.

You wouldn’t be able to rejoice in feeling healthy and strong in your body if you hadn’t experienced illness at one time or another.

And getting in touch with the true and real you, like picking up your paintbrush after 20 years, or leading a group of colleagues in a workshop, or even just smiling at strangers on a daily basis…

… would not be so profound if you’d never experienced the loneliness and struggle of having to play the role of the “good” girl or boy to feel accepted.

Your ability to hold the good and the bad, the pain and the pleasure, the ups and downs, (without your mind making it mean something negative about you) is the key to health and wellbeing.

When painful experiences no longer mean you're bad, damaged, wrong or unloveable, you can return to a state of calm.

HOWEVER, what usually happens is…

…your subconscious mind (in an effort to protect you), looks for evidence that you're somehow ‘defective’ when you've experienced pain as a way to explain what happened.

Therefore, all too often the mind remains focused on the negative experiences you’ve had, keeping you stuck in a state of fear or freeze in order to avoid those things ever happening again.

What happens next?

You lose the ability to move between contrasting experiences (the ups and downs), and instead, your brain and body keep you stuck in the pain.

It’s counterintuitive in some ways, isn’t it?

To avoid pain, your nervous system keeps you in pain.

But it’s how your survival brain works.

In order for your brain to allow you to have joy, play, creativity, and connection in your life, you need a nervous system that feels safe to feel it all… because none of it means you're defective.

This is exactly what I help my clients with in therapy.

When you release trauma and distress from the past, you can return to a state of connection and protection within yourself (the way nature created you to be).

When that happens, you can accept it all.

The good, bad, ugly … and the exquisite.

Then, when something challenging comes your way, you don't feel deep down that it says you're a failure, or doomed to suffer.

It becomes just another lesson that you're blessed to experience here in this lifetime to progress on your soul journey.

Soon, you can integrate the lessons here at Earth School into your system, and you can take steps forward in your life toward more joy, health, stability, and creativity.
