My story…

At the height of my career as a hospital social worker, I was blessed with a wonderful partner, a new baby, and a house in Toronto: but secretly I was crumbling with postpartum anxiety and PTSD, and chronic pain due to life-long autoimmune conditions.

I wanted to do what I thought was best for myself and my family - work a full-time job in a healthcare setting where I could have a secure income, benefits, regular hours, and a professional identity. I was regarded as competent by my peers and boss, and I was offered multiple opportunities within the system which I was very proud of. I sad YES to long-hours, quick lunch-at-my-desk moments, and complex patient cases. The work had its natural stressful demands, but in search of perfection I pushed my body to its absolute limit, eventually forcing me to quit because the anxiety, pain and inflammation was too much.

I had to take an honest look at my values, my needs, and my body’s language. This led me down a path of healing my PTSD, anxiety, and even chronic physical symptoms with a variety of medicines, but EMDR and meditation being the most powerful modalities for me.

NOW - most days I live in a calm body, with a clear mind. Of course, life brings me challenges like everyone else, but my nervous system and I collaborate to create the reality that serves not only myself, but my family in sustainable, joyful ways.
