Your Psychology Today profile won’t lead to a practice you love

Dear Therapist,

I am part of a few group chats with fellow therapists.

There was a conversation the other day on one of them that revealed a belief that to have a thriving private practice with a steady stream of new referrals, you need to have a psychology today profile with a specific niche.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with this approach, and you probably will get more interest in your practice when you advertise this way.

But it's my belief that you won't be able to create a highly-profitable, 12-hour work week therapy practice with dream clients using this method of marketing alone.

This is because a “nice” is an area of focus that a certain segment of the population is dealing with.

Whereas a dream client is a type of person with certain characteristics, desires, needs, struggles, values, and principles that would greatly benefit from your specific services.

Your dream client is what will find you, not because of your credentials, years of experience, or niche…

They will find you because your words speak directly to their psyche and helps them see how they can get from point A to point Z with your support and guidance.

It's your dream clients who are poised for transformation, ready to take necessary steps, and are excited to pay you for your expertise…

The clients that when they learn about you, say “that's the woman for me! she's speaking my language and I can't wait to invest my well-earned money into working with her so I can … XYZ… (call in the love of my life / transform my marriage / release my chronic pain for good / overcome years of depression and step into vitality…)"

The therapist-client relationship is a lot like dating.

You don't want to just date anyone who is available just because they also likes chocolate ice cream… you want it to be the right person for you!

You want know whether this person will understand you, appreciate you, and support you along your path with devotion.

So, my love, how are you helping your dream clients find you?

How are you helping them know that you're the one for them?

OR vice versa… how are you helping them know your'e NOT the one for them, which is equally valuable because you don't want to spend your time doing intake sessions with clients who are clearly not a fit from the get-go!

Dream client avatar + zone of genius + simple marketing = successful private practice :)

This is the alchemical recipe for a successful business, PLUS major transformation for your clients.

To get there, you must first have a clear vision of who you're here to serve, and how you do it using your God-given talents and skills.

If you're ready to get clear on your services, and your magic, and set yourself up for a successful 2024, let me know I have some amazing strategies for you :)
